I am purchasing a 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness. Is it necessary to break in an engine on new cars. Some say do your first oil change after 1000 miles. What are your thoughts.
From your vehicle’s owner’s manual -

Variations of this question have been asked several times.
With modern metallurgy, engineering and manufacturing, no, it's not really necessary to change the oil at 1,000 miles or follow any kind of old-school break in cycle. I changed my oil in my Mustang at 1,000 miles out of someone else's advice. Filters and oil are way more advanced now than before. If it makes you sleep better at night, you can do it.
I would advise not using cruise control in that time and vary the RPMs, driving in the city vs the highway will give the most opportunity to do so. I would also avoid getting close to redlining, etc.
