Any suggestions on a new crossover, replacing a 2003 Honda Oddessy. Prefer a Japanese make.

Thanks in advance.

Consider Sienna as a good van replacement, Otherwise, get a Highlander or RAV4.

 Honda HR-V

Honda CR-V

Honda Fit

Toyota Highlander

Mazda cx-30

Mazda cx-5

If less than 100k miles to keep car:

Hyundai/Kia/Subaru SUV's would not be bad.

The Mazda Cx-5 wouldn't be a bad choice either. If you keep your cars for less than 100,000 miles you could also look at Hyundai.

I tend to keep them until they fall apart. any common problems to look for in a Mazda CX-5?

Yes, CX-5s are good cars and if you maintain them they are very reliable. There are common problems with some years.

Toyota Honda, and the Mazda and Subaru should be on your list.
Watch the videos above and look at the common complaints and you could make a reliability opinion to yourself. Mazda used to use Nissan transmissions and Ford engines in the 2000s but now uses its own torque converter automatic and skyactive engine, which has been relatively trouble free in the last 7 8 model years.

Look for a pre owned 2017 RAV4.

I would suggest a 2004-2010 Toyota Sienna - you can easily get a good price on these. The 2011-2020 ones are also really good, but you will pay a lot more. I personally own a 2006 Sienna with 112K miles and I absolutely love it - it has been the most reliable car I've owned and I've only done scheduled maintenance.
