Scotty, i got a new Honda Civic 5000km ago, the change oil sign says i must change it not after another 1400km, but when i asked the mechanic he told me to wait until 10000km. What should i do?
What are your driving conditions? Dusty, hot, humid, stop & go traffic, etc?
Assuming you have full synthetic oil at present, your driving conditions must be pretty harsh for the oil to already deteriorate, after just 6400 kms.
If it was my car, I’d change it (oil & filter) right now at 5000 kms with fresh full synthetic oil. Also, I’d send a sample of the old oil to a lab which tests oil to get a health report and see if your onboard oil change indicator is accurate or not.
If you’re running mineral oil (or synthetic blend), change it right now at 5000kms and moving forward use full synthetic oil (preferably).
