Im having trouble finding a new car but not in the traditional sense. I have found a lot of options for a new car, including an 09 matrix xrs ($5,500), an 03 acura rsx type s ($3,800), and a 1993 accord with a brand new jdm h22a engine ($2,500). All manual transmission. I currently have a 2011 hyundai sonata hybrid that has a super laggy drive by cable/ electronic throttle, is starting to burn a ton of oil, constantly gets recalls and needs fixing, and just isnt any fun to drive daily. And for a hybrid it only gets 28mpg! I have several offers for the hyundai for 6.5k and each of the replacement options are under that and in good shape.
However, my folks despise the idea of me getting a manual trans car, will not let me go look at the cars or take a mechanic, and of all things recommended me a MINI COOPER AND A NISSAN SENTRA!!!
ANY advice on how to get through to them would be appreciated.
Your parents need to be educated, and perhaps, they are stubborn. Either they are not knowledgeable about cars or they're trying to kneecap you (passive/aggressive behavior). I don't know.
I don't know if your parents would be amenable to an evidence-based presentation. If they would be, then go that way.
Or, if they're game, let them present their case on this Forum. The feedback would be interesting, to say the least.
What do they have against manual transmissions?
