Keep or sell my 2017 Ford Escape with a new long block?

Scotty - I have a 2017 Ford Escape with a 2L EcoBoost engine.   Extended warranty is replacing the long block due to coolant intrusion at 86,000 miles.

Should I be concerned with a new motor and an 86,000 mile transmission?  Take it to Carmax or sell or to my niece?

Thanks!

Depends on whoever is replacing the engine and what with.  Is it a new crate engine or whatever they could find used somewhere?  What kind of solid warranty are they going to give you on the engine, if any?  The trans with 86K miles on it should be OK if you have changed the fluid and filter every 40K miles or so.  If not, I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy.  Wait, maybe I would.

No, hell no! Why would you want to create family drama, when the engine again goes out in a few years due to design issues?! Uncles are supposed to be cool, not detested..

Take it to Carmax

By all means. Have a few places evaluate it while you line up a replacement vehicle.

Also, if it’s the dealer doing the repair, you can bet that they won’t be interested in another warranty claim if the engine goes out soon after. Your best bet would be to let them fix it so that it runs good, then offload it ASAP.
