New Toyota Corolla - normal or hybrid?

I am looking at the latest E210 model Toyota Corolla, and was looking at the options between the hybrid and the standard versions. In terms of trouble areas, the latest 2.0 litre engine and the 10 speed CVT have only been around since 2018, whereas the e-CVT and Atkinson cycle engine in the hybrid are proven units. There is the battery replacement cost to think about, but at the same time, the port/GDI combo in the standard engine would be expensive to fix, as would the new complex CVT.

Which would have the greater reliability in the long run?

Well it depends, Toyota has a pretty good track record of testing things before they put them into production. If you only plan on keeping the car about 10 years and can afford the extra cost of the Hybrid you could go that route. If you plan on keeping it longer I’d go non hybrid. Their new CVT has a 1st actual launch gear. So I don’t see failures being common as other mfg CVT’s.

I would stick to the normal one and pass on the hybrid if looking to keep the car long term.

Well, … a question first: Do you want a hybrid? This is important, … if you dim want one, you probably just buy one regardless of arguments presented here. But if you really asking, `Should I consider buying a hybrid?’ Following vid may help a lot:
