No Go from a 2006 Silverado 5.3 LA06 transmission-without warning, Trans acts as if in neutral in all gears-RD321

Was driving my 2006 Silverado, LA06 auto trans, when something unexpected happened. I pulled up to stopped traffic, and when the light changed the two in front of me drove off, but mine just revved up, in Drive, but no go. I had just come off of a 170 mile run, pulled off of the freeway, and turned onto city streets. The unexpected occurred after the third intersection I had to stop at. I turned of the truck for about 10 minutes, then turned the ignition switch off and on 4 or 5 times, and then started the engine, put it in gear, and drove forward for about 30 or 40 feet, when it again acted as if in neutral, while in Drive position. It's as if someone had pushed on the clutch pedal so the engine could freewheel.

The fluid is golden brown, only slight burnt smell to it, but it is about 1 1/2" above hatched line on trans dipstick. Could this be a combination fluid/filter/converter/electronic problem?  No check engine lights have come on.

mileage please

It's definitely a transmission problem. Have the fluid filter ever been changed?

Not sure if filters been changed, but fluid is a brownish gold color, not red like Dex II. It doesn't smell burnt, but like motor oil that's overdo for a change, it has that well-used smell.

Changing the fluid is on the list of trouble shooting, but I was surprised to stumble onto the ignition key cycling 4 or 5 times before starting engine, and then it will move 25 to 50 feet before the drive factor ceases to happen, as if it was put into neutral.

Possible electronic malfunction, or the lock-up converter??

yeah gold fluid is very suspect.
