2000 Dodge Stratus, v6, 99k miles
I bought this for 100$ many months ago. My friend put a battery in it. And we tried to start it. And it would not fully crank over. And also cranked kind of slow. My friend who works on cars all the time. Says the compression sounded fine, that the engine sounds fine.
Previous owner says it was running fine. And eventually stopped working. She had several people look at it she says, and they could not figure out the issue.
My friend who is somewhat a mechanic said there was "NO SPARK" in any of the cylinders.
So we took out the old distributer, and it looked like water had got into it. It was pretty rusty on the inside. So I bought a new one. And installed it myself. And my mechanic friend looked over it and made sure all spark plugs were hooked up right to distributer.
It still would NOT start. But this time it sounded like it backfired or something. Thats what my friend said. So we thought we didnt install distributer correctly. So I paid a mechanic to install it right for me. And STILL NO spark in all cylinders.
So with new distributer. Still no spark in any cylinder. So I am now wondering if it could be the ECM? Is there a way to get the old one tested? I found some online for 150 that come programmed you just provide them with your vin.
Before I spend the money I dont even have yet was wondering what yall thought about this? 90k miles on this car. Matches title. So Id like to revive it.
So I paid a mechanic to install it right for me. And STILL NO spark in all cylinders.
If you tell a mechanic to install a distributor then that's all he's gonna do. Why didn't you ask him to fix the car and make it work?
So I am now wondering if it could be the ECM?
why would you skip trouble troubleshooting, and jump right to replacing the most expensive part?
this time it sounded like it backfired or something
Did you double check the plug wires are on in the correct order? check fuses? test coils?
Used a scan tool to look for CPS signal?

Because my friend said that is what should fix it.
They tested the spark plugs and found so spark in any cylinder.
Yes we checked several times the spark plug wires are hooked up in the correct order
When you go to the doctor, do you tell him you have a pain in your abdomen, or do you say remove my spleen because my friend said that would fix it?
sounds like you need to stop listening to your friend.
