Hi,
I wish to clarify the correct way to plug in an OBD scanner into my car’s OBD port.
Plug in the scanner to the port with key first and then insert car key and turn it to start or insert car key and turn it to start and then plug in the scanner?
Please also advise removal procedure.

You can actually do it any way you want and some of it depends upon the actual scan tool. Some of my scan tools let me do turn on plug it in they work some of them say if I do that turn key off wait five seconds then turn key on basically you want to follow the directions on your scan tool because many of them have a different procedurethat's for unplugging them you can unplug them with the car running or the car shut off it really makes no difference at all
Thanks Scotty for your quick reply.
You recently youtube the ThinkOBD 100 scan tool by ThinkCar. Can you advise how you plug this scanner into a Toyota Corolla? Plug in and then turn key to on to perform the scan ? or Turn key on then plug in ? Do I need to start the engine when the manual states "Turn the vehicle ignition on"?
Thanks
