I'm not sure when this sound started, but I've noticed while I'm moving that my 1999 Ranger makes a really odd, relatively loud creaking sound after you shut it off and let it sit for around 5 minutes. It sounds metallic and seems to be coming from somewhere underneath. If you're inside, you can feel the truck vibrate when it happens, but it's a once and done thing.
It doesn't seem to be causing any issues other than being being a head scratching attention getter.
Only makes the concern 5 minutes after the engine is turned off?
I don’t know those trucks extremely well but if it utilizes an evap pump or something of that nature they can test the system while the engine is off and could be coming from there
Yeah, it's only around 5 minutes after the engine's turned off, and only makes the noise once. Part of me thinks it may be the exhaust cooling off, but that shouldn't resonate throughout the truck, lol.
