I have a 2015cx5 sport 2.0. The oil is synthetic.  Manual says to change the oil every 6months or 7500.miles. I drive about 5000 in a year. Can I safely just change the oil once a year

Nobody will tell you doing it once a year is unsafe. But, how well you take care of your vehicle determines how long the engine lasts. So it's your judgement call.

It’s hard to say, … it used to be change oil at least once a year if milage is lower. Now, I hear more and more a six months. I don’t know what is changing, what is causing it all, … just rumours all around. Honda service folks, Toyota service folks, … they all keep repeating: "oil is cheap, engines are expensive". Nothing really official, … just a voice from folks who do the actual work in the back. Now, you are saying Mazda made this official for their vehicles already back in ‘15, … hmmn?
