Hi, I recently purchased a 2004 Honda Civic with 74k miles, auto. trans. I am using mobile 1 synthetic oil. I drive approx. 3k miles per year. Usually I make short trips with a few 20 mile trips at 45 mph per month. How often should I change the oil? Thanks for your advice.

The consensus has been to change your oil and filter every 5000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Since I am a nut case about oil changes, I do mine every 3000 miles, no matter what. Oil is cheap.

I'm with @Doc. If you decided to go for 5k miles intervals, make sure you use a quality oil filter since the cheap ones are no good for higher miles.
