Oil change schedule by months

Scotty often recommends changing the engine oil every 5000 miles. If I don't drive that often to reach 5000 miles, after how many months does Scotty recommend changing the oil? Is it 6 months or 1 year? Thank you!

IF you don't drive it much/often, do yourself a favor and drive it far enough to get the engine fully warmed up at least every 2 weeks/1 month. One big problem with seldom-driven cars is that the oil gets moisture from the air in it, and it accumulates over time if the car is rarely driven, which can cause rust/corrosion/sludge.

@glen_stet This is good to know. Thank you.

Once a year is a reasonable interval.

@yaser Much appreciated.

We usually say every 5,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first.

Great, thanks @daywalker.

I am that category with my vehicles.  I average 7k every 12 months.  I have always opted to go with every 6 months on the change.  Oil changes are relatively inexpensive, especially doing it yourself.  I like the peace of mind.  JP
