Oil Dipstick

I recently bought an 06 Jeep Commander SLT 4x4, V6 3.7 liter engine 155.000 miles on it. We took the jeep to a oil change place. Afterwards my husband checked the oil and it registered right. A few days later the oil wouldn't register on the oil stick. So my husband added oil, it still wouldn't barely touch the end of the dip stick. On my receipt papers from the oil change it stated they withdrew 5 qts of oil and filled with 5 qts. one time last week the oil light came on, I added 1 qt of oil and it hasn't come on again. But the oil stick showed needing oil again. My husband added 2 qts. The jeep runs great, not smoking, no hestitation. So my question is, if there isn't a visible oil leak, where is the oil going? or can the oil stick be to short?

It means that your car burns oil. Have your husband check the tailpipe and also the spark plugs for oil residue. One more thing: Do not run low on oil.

Or maybe it is leaking oil… but I guess you’d see that?

It's probably leaking oil while you drive it and burning it off, hence no leaks on the ground.

If you are going through that much oil in such a short amount of time, you've got a major issue you need to find and address.
