HelloScotty, love your channel.
i made the mistake of getting a big suv with a 4cylinder engine.
I got a Mazda CX-9 with the 2.5 turbo.
I change the oil at the dealer every 3000 miles but I don’t k ow what weight they use.
You sometimes say to use whatever the dealer sells, but then you recommend 0W-16 for turbo 4’s.
can you advise, if they are not using this weight, should I change it myself and start using the 0W-16, or continue using what the got?
thank you
The online owner's manual (for 2021) says 5W-30, with a capacity of 5.1 qts with an oil filter.

So, in future, you might want to bookmark this page so the owner's manual is available to you, when you need it, for this kind of information. (Hopefully, the dealer used 5W30, but who knows, if you don't ask).
If time is not a major object, a DIYer can do a much better job, given a pair of ramps, the right oil and filter, a ratchet and torque wrench, and a catch pan, and good oil, than any dealer or quickie lube place.

As I understand, Scotty's advice for 0W16 is specifically for the oil dilution problems on the Honda 1.5 liter, Dream Works engine on CRVs and Civics.
My gut sense on what to do: A jump from 5W30 to 0W16 is a very severe jump. I wouldn't do it, at all. (Scotty's recommendation was to move these Dream Works engine to 0W16 from 0W20, a much smaller adjustment).
So, have you researched, on Carcomplaints.com, whether the CX-9, for your year, has reported oil dilution problems?

Do that, first. If there aren't any, USE WHAT THE MANUFACTURER tells you to use.
You didn't say the year of the vehicle (??), so out of curiosity I looked up the Mazda 2021 manual at the following site:

U.S.A., Canada, and Puerto Rico
Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil.
Mazda Genuine Oil is used in your Mazda vehicle. Mazda Genuine 5W-30 Oil is required to achieve optimum fuel economy.
For maintenance service, Mazda recommends Mazda Genuine Parts and Oil.

(Mexico)
Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil. If SAE 5W-30 engine oil is not available, use SAE 0W-30 or SAE 10W-30 engine oil.
The quality designation SM or SN, or ILSAC must be on the label.

Scotty recommends 0W-16 oil for turbocharged GDI engines that formerly specified 0W-20 oil, particularly those with oil dilution problems. If the manufacturer specifies 5W-30 oil for your vehicle stick with that.
