After an oil change, should I fill engine oil until before 3/4 or right at the max line?

Well most cars it goes to the max when you're at level and the engine is cold

I went by my car manual and it was all wrong. I ended up reading the bit that said it took 1.5 english litres to raise it from the min to max point on the dipstick. So the manual recommended 5.9L and I put 5L in. Reasoning that it would be at least above the min mark.

Then I raised it to 5.2L and it was just shy of the max mark.

The reason I was suspicious of the amounts is when I got the car there was too much oil in it. But I took a chance and got it anyway (I needed it for a court appearance during Covid and had no transport) and luckily there was no engine damage.
