I have another question regarding my Pontiac Catalina. It's a 1979 Pontiac Catalina with the 3-speed automatic transmission and a Pontiac 301 V8. I had to send the cluster back one more time before the warranty ran out. It was actually 5 miles an hour off, when you're going 50 miles an hour It's actually going 55 miles an hour, and it would randomly start and stop the clock. It's apparently something other than the clock that's doing it, not surprising for a 45-year old GM product. I figured I would at least get the speedometer exact. Apparently this is not possible, somehow it needs to be the whole transmission? I've never heard that before. It's all stock, and I know everything works downstream of the transmission. It should just be the wrong gear ratio.
There were different speedometer gears used on the transmission end of the cable depending on the rear end ratio. Are they saying you need a different gear there? I guess it's possible that a different rear axle was installed in the thing sometime over the decades.
Does that car have a mechanical clock or a quartz digital clock? The late 1970s were transition years for that. The old mechanical dashboard clocks never worked well.
It was an ordinary dashboard clock that I had them convert the first time it was in the shop, 2022. It didn't work at all. Now it works intermittently. It wasn't originally quartz, now it is.
I didn't really get a straight answer out of him. Apparently they tune to original specifications and it's still off. There was only one type of rear end that's 7.5". 2.41 : 1 rear end. Unless they did something screwy, it should be the same. I'm only the 4th owner of this car and it was originally owned by old people for 30+ years. Another guy just pretty much drove it, got In a pinch and sold the car to my father-in-law, he drove it for a couple years, then parked it for 5.
Just for grins you might want to check that rear axle ratio.

I'll do that once I get a little better. Half of my left side still doesn't work. Most of my left leg works again, but only weakly.
Definitely don't push yourself too hard, it's not worth it!
I've got enough knowledge that I could give someone, but my girlfriend isn't into cars like I am. Haha. It takes time. 6 weeks ago I could barely move my leg at all. I imagine another six weeks I'll be almost back to normal. I can wait, it's not like it's going anywhere.
