Hey guys, was wanting some opinions. I have a 01 pathfinder I got for $200 a couple years ago or so, has 217k on it and it drives good still, but has its issues. When I got it the trans was a bit jerky(fluid was low), added some fluid and some bars anti slip, and it shifts pretty good now. If the trans were to go out would it be dumb to get a junk yard trans and throw it in? Body is in good shape as well as the suspension seems solid. Also has a rear main seal leak, but could fix that if and when the trans dies. Probably a dumb question but I wanna know yalls thoughts lol.

It's a gamble. If you found a low-mileage transmission (tough with a vehicle that old) it might be OK if you do the installation yourself. That way you're not out of pocket for labor if it doesn't work out. (I've done well with used transmissions but there's always the possibility of getting a clunker.)
You never know what you're getting with a used trans. If I wanted to keep the vehicle, I would get a rebuilt unit with a warranty.
Appreciate it 🙏
I think that's a "no". If it was a Cherokee or 4Runner, I'd say yes (or I'd even spring for a rebuilt unit). But Pathfinders haven't held value well, and IMO any repair over $500-1000 isn't worth it. Used car values are softening, so throwing $$ into a vehicle like that probably wouldn't make sense.
Start setting aside $ for a replacement, but don't drop much into the pathfinder.
Thanks, was just curious. It's just a going to town rig, I guess I'll drive it till it doesn't go anymore haha. No sign of giving up yet. Highly recommend the bars antislip for a worn out out trans.
