Hello Scotty,
I have a 2008 Dodge Nitro R/T, 4 liter V6 Automatic, with 138000 miles. Bought it from new at Daimler/chryskler here in France, (I'm danish living in France haha). I'm a conservative driver, no burnouts. Use as daily driver. Bought it to replace my old Jeep Cherokee limited 4.0 Litre, as I love square cars. I baby it, change oil/filter every 6 month, do most of service myself, had the timing belt, water pump, pulleys replaced last year at dealer(2400USD), transmission fluid checked and replaced 3 years ago.
When I drive around 30 to 40 miles an hour and accelerate, car hesitates, sometime won't accelerate right away. Oct 27 21 , I accelerated to pass a car, it kicked down with high rpm, engine light came on and flashed , I stopped shortly after, used my blue driver and got code P0201(Fuel injector 1 circuit open) and P0301(cylinder 1 misfire Detected).
I have occasionally felt some misfiring at idle, but not much, thought it was just due to age. I have since then replaced, Battery, 6 fuel injectors, 6 coils, 6 spark plugs, 2 oxygen sensors, MAF, MAP, PVC valve. The crankshaft and camshaft sensors was replaced Nov 2020 as I had some misfire shown in Mode 6. I did a carbon cleaning 2 weeks ago, which made the car run a little better. Also did the throttle body cleaning as you advice on video. Air filter is clean. It doesn't seem to burn oil.
I still have misfires, now with pending codes P0172(system to rich bank 1) P0175fuel system 2/1 rich) P02096 post catalyst fuel trim too lean bank 1) P02098(post catalyst fuel trim too lean bank 1). Misfire is mostly on cylinder 3 with between 25 to 60 misfire in 1 hour drive. Car only starts in second attempt. I idle for 2 to 3 min before putting it in drive, as it drives better when warm. At full operating temperature it runs fine, hardly feel any misfire. but when I'm at a stop and accelerate, it goes slowly first, then jumps into a fast acceleration and then drives normally.
with best regards
Lasse Busch,
P.S I plan to retire this Nitro to a Sunday driver, and then lease a Toyota for daily commute.
Well check to see if the head gaskets blown first try my video how to find if your head gasket is blown Scotty. If not that those are notorious for having bad computers and if you did have bad fuel injectors they can short out the driver circuit and then they don't run right unless you replace the computer
Thanks for this information. Scotty.
