Hello everyone and Mr.Scotty I really like your videos you have saved me lots of time and money by now i always give your videos a like Anyways I just finished watching your recent video “here’s why mechanics hate Toyotas “ I have a 2003 Toyota Camry le 4 cylinder with 197k miles looks just like the one from the video but I recently fixed a bad ignition coil, and now I got a p0420 code I erased the code twice but when I turn the AC on the check engine comes back on I also tested the oxygen sensor in front when you open the hood and the one under the car with a multimeter and it does show resistance,I can see one more back by the catalytic converter or towards the back of the car but I couldn’t test that one didn’t find a way to disconnect it. I was thinking on doing the LACQUER THINNER cleaner but I want to take it to a mechanic first to check it maybe he can find something else if not I’ll just pour the lacquer thinner cleaner. Anyways hope someone can help.
Never put lacquer thinner in your fuel system. Use something like Cataclean to see if it helps.
Well that's a weird one. Now turning on the AC stresses the charging system. So do check the battery and alternator. If they're weak that could be doing it. Pray it's that because if it's a computer module or some type of wiring problem that acts up only when you turn the AC on and the system is drained more it could be absolute hell trying to figure out what's causing it
I recently changed the battery less than a month ago, I’ll have the alternator tested, I’ve had the car for 70k miles don’t know how the previous owner did or didn’t do maintenance my guess is he didn’t do good of a job. But I have done the maintenance on time kind of weird though if it’s a p0420 code the car as of now still runs perfectly fine.
P0420 is covered in the FAQ
