I have a 2011 Kia Forte. The check engine light came on and my scanner shows a P0711 code. I’m not super car smart but know how to research. I’ve found some info that says it’s likely the transmission temperature sensor that’s bad but found other info that says it could be the transmission fluid. After doing some more research, it seems hit or miss as to whether or not the trans fluid should be changed. Should I change the fluid first or should I go ahead and replace the sensor? Or is it possible that the transmission itself is the problem and maybe it’s time to get another daily driver? I am the original owner and know all of the history of my car and have all service records.
always provide your mileage please
Sorry...mileage is 157,000
start diagnosis with the easy stuff
Look at the transmission dipstick. Is there enough fluid? Is the fluid dirty/burnt/worn out.
Check the transmission wires for damage.
Then move on to harder stuff. Punch the code into a web search. Follow the diagnosis steps.
