I have a 2008 Grand Marquis. The manufacturer recommended coolant (for all late Panther cars) is Motorcraft Gold. My local discount parts places don't stock it on the shelves, so I went to my local Ford dealer. I asked them for the Gold, and the parts guy came back with Motorcraft Yellow. I asked why and he said that Ford recommends the Yellow for everything now. I did my research and found that was not the case. Yellow replaces some other Motorcraft coolants, but not Gold. I ended up ordering Gold from parts.ford with pick-up at the same dealer. When I pick it up, another parts guy is there and he acts like the Gold is now a rare commodity (which they don't stock anymore) and good luck finding it in the future. I can't find anything saying Motorcraft is discontinuing production of the Gold coolant. Is my local dealer full of malarkey or is Motorcraft really cutting back on Gold production and I need to find an alternative?
Motorcraft Gold coolant is "HOAT" chemistry (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology). You can use any other quality antifreeze with the same type of chemistry, such as Zerex G-05. (The Zerex coolant also happens to be gold in color but that's just a dye.)
This is a total CROCK. You can use any 50/50 coolant that's on sale without having to pay for the BS Motorcraft labeling. It's a scam and a rip off.
