Hey Scotty. I’m a new subscriber and I love the videos your a funny guy. I’m looking to buy a used car. This would be my first car I just graduated high school and I’m going to be going driving to college and my new job. Which car do I buy? They’re all automatic, FWD, just under $12k and from dealerships (my mom won’t let me buy privately): 2014 Hyundai Veloster turbo 91k miles, 2013 Volvo S60 T5 W/ 5 Cylinder turbo 105k miles, 2012 VW Jetta GLI W/ 4 cylinder turbo 103k miles, 2011 Lexus IS 250 W/ V6 131k miles. I’m gonna be a poor college student paying rent so please factor in fuel economy as well. THANK YOU SCOTTY!!!
Well I'll tell you this. The Lexus is the only one that I would buy. If it's in good shape. I wouldn't buy any of those other cars. They aren't very good
2014 Hyundai Veloster turbo 91k miles
This is the worst, T-GDi Hyundai engines do not hold up - and a lot of these came with an absolutely horrid DCT.
2012 VW Jetta GLI W/ 4 cylinder turbo 103k miles
Absolutely horrible - one of the worst engines ever made by VW.
Scotty recently revied one that failed at around 90k miles in an Audi A4 - and it's quite typical.
2013 Volvo S60 T5 W/ 5 Cylinder turbo 105k miles
This is a pretty lovely car, they're not bad mechanically and have 250 horsepower and best in class safety.
But note the poor fuel millage (24 mpg) and that if the gearbox wasn't maintained, with how much torque these make - it's likely to go out in the near future.
I’ve owned Volvos in the past, and neither one was cheap to own. Some more reliable than others but never cheap - anything that I’ve needed to do with the car was unreasonably expensive (even stuff like the washer fluid tank cracking)
2011 Lexus IS 250 W/ V6 131k miles
This is also not a car I'd recommend, they're famous for loosing compression on cylinder number 5 - it's definitely better than the VW and the Hyundai.

So maybe buy a reasonable car, like a 3rd gen Mazda3 with the SkyActive G, or a Toyota Corolla with a 4 speed .
Maybe even a 3rd gen Mazda6 although they have somewhat weak transmissions.
