Scotty, I have a Manual 2004 Pontiac vibe with just under 150,000 miles and my car surges so loud and fast in cold weather (under 45 degrees) and it’s even worse under 30-35 degrees and is so obnoxious. It surges from 1700 up to 2300 rpm’s fast until it gets a quarter of the way warm and I can feel the life shredding of my car every single day I turn it on and hear it surging for so long. It goes away once it warms up and then idles like a dreams. It runs great beside every once in a while it will jug a little bit when I pull the clutch in to come to a stop but that only happens once every few weeks. Air filter is good, oil always fresh, spark plugs fresh from 120,000 miles, and I sprayed brake parts cleaner around the intake manifold and idle does not change at all when I try it warm or cold. I have not checked the IAC valve but probably will soon. I’ve looked up some stuff about the vibe and matrix and some say it’s supposed to do that but I find it hard to believe because it is so loud and obnoxious when surging in the cold weather so I thought I would ask a expert since you have a matrix.
Please help me with this problem and if it’s normal, how can I get it to stop doing that in the cold, it’s done it for as long as I’ve owned it at 120,000 miles. Please help. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you!
I’ll see if this helps, thank you so much!
