I drive a 2014 jeep patriot sport 2.0. sometimes when I first start the car an start to go my headlights dim an so does my dash. The abs light an traction control light come on also. The jeep almost loses all power but then after a few minutes goes back to normal an doesn't do it again for another few days. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I also do car audio. I was running a secondary battery while the audio was in. I recently took it all out an went back to stock for my big build. It didn't start doing this until I took the secondary battery out.
Start by having your battery and alternator load tested. AutoZone and many other parts stores will do it as a free service.
Sounds like the alternator is going bad.
Alternator is a high output an just got it. Had it tested already everything was good
Are you getting a steady 14.5 volts at the battery at idle?
Yes
Check your engine and chassis ground connections.
After reading your above comment, I'm thinking this;
When you removed the second battery you might have removed a ground current path that was masking a high resistance connection. Without that path more current is being forced through the hypothetical high resistance connection (loose, corroded, etc.) causing it to intermittently act up. If this is true it will likely get worse over time. You might be able to test my theory by connecting a jumper from the neg. battery terminal to the point/points where the other battery was grounded, to see if your problem clears up.
How would I stop it from getting worse over time? Because I'm getting ready to run 3 batteries instead of just one. Is that going to be a problem? I will have to try your option out. Thank you.
To stop it from getting worse you would have to find and fix the problem, however, if you're going back to another non stock configuration you might successfully mask the problem again. It's hard to say what's going on when modifications are involved. I would recommend trying to get things right before adding more stuff.
Ok thanks
