I have a 2000 Ford F-150 5.4L V8 2wd Automatic with almost 254,000 miles on it.
I bought it from a pawn shop 4 years ago for $900. It was a little beat up, but even with 222 K miles it was running well and was clean. Aside from routine maintenance, I have had to replace the fuel filter and the intake manifold (cracked) but no issues. I want to keep it running as it has served me well.
What issues are common that I should be looking for as I move forward?

Mainly the automatic trans.
But also every other little thing that will start wearing out. "death by a thousand cuts"
