Hello Scotty,
I have a 2020 F150 2WD, 5.0 V8 with about 70,000 miles on it (out of warranty). I took it in for a check engine light and found out I had a cracked head (passenger side). There was no mixture of coolant and oil. Coolant was intruding into the cylinder. I have never taken it off road, towed anything, or overheated it.
After the head was replaced, it took the Ford dealership an additional 3 or 4 weeks to figure out how to get the check engine light to stay off. They replaced a ton of parts including the fuel rail and the injectors. They did not charge me for the additional parts outside of the original price for the head replacement. In fact, after much complaining on my part, they charged me much less than the original price to replace the head.
Ford had the truck for a total of 6 weeks by the time I got it back. The warranty on the repairs is 2 years with unlimited miles. It seems to be running great now.
Would you keep it at this point or try to trade it in?
I am disgusted they charged you anything at all. A three year old truck V8 should not crack. I would not trust the engine (or Ford) after that. Get rid of it.
I would get rid of it. Ford quality has been on a downhill course for a while. It won’t get any better with additional age or mileage.
