Issue in installation toyota oil cartridge filter

Hi Scotty,

Yesterday, I performed the first oil change on a new 2024 Toyota 4Runner. I know how to change the oil, including the oil filter, properly because I own a Toyota Camry and have always changed the oil myself. However, after finishing the work on the 4Runner, I began to doubt whether I had pushed the cartridge filter properly into the oil case (if I had pushed it all the way to the bottom of the cartridge's case).

My question is: will the cartridge filter sit properly (adjust itself) after tightening the filter case, or do I need to reopen the filter to ensure the cartridge has been installed properly?

The car drives fine, and I do not see any signs of issues, but I am just thinking about it and starting to doubt myself.

If the paper element didn't initially sit flush with the base of the housing, it will when the housing is tightened onto the engine. The large O ring is what really counts. Don't know why someone at Toyota thought cartridge filters were better (cheaper?) than spin on. I've had 2 Camrys in succession.. went from the spin on type to the cartridge type, cartridge type is more of a hassle.
