Hi Scotty!  My family is from Lewiston - Oakie or Todd Davidson may ring a bell?   I am looking for new Truck and following your V8 advice.   Is the new eTorque on the 5.7 Hemi a good thing or bad?

Well it gives a lot of power. Yes, but it's extremely complex. And Todd Davidson does ring a bell

Don’t.

The (unmodified) 5.7 Hemi is one of the best motors currently in production.  Strong, smooth, reliable, easy to service (other than the 16 spark plugs).  It has a few flaws, like lifter issues, but otherwise a truly great engine.

But as soon as you add eTorque, that all goes out the window.  I don’t think it is necessarily a bad system, and they are certainly making a lot of them these days, but it adds complexity and a lot of long term service cost (and for the most part, service will require a dealer, not DIY).  Considering that FCA/Stellantis is known for having problems with their electridigicals (as Derek from VGG would say), you’d be taking the truck’s single greatest asset and making it a liability.

Also, the hemi is being replaced by a turbo 6, I think, next year.  So getting the last model year of the V8?  In a few years it could be worth its weight in gold... but not with eTorque.
