Hello everyone, from Eastern Europe. I'm looking to buy a RAV4 '01-'05. I already checked quite a few of them...most have a D4D engine here, 5-speed manual transmission, with mileage ranging from around 180 000km - 250 000km (110 000 - 150 000 miles) and cost from $3800 to $5000, and seem to be in good condition(for a vehicle that old)
'01 '02 and '03 have, I think, the 1AZ-FE engine, while '04 and '05 have the 2AZ-FE engine that Scotty talked about, having the oil-burning problem... I read in the FAQs that only '06-'09 have this problem, so, should I not worry too much about that with these?
Is there anything else I should be leery about (injectors, AWD, etc.) Do you think it's worth buying it?
Sorry if the question is too long, it's my 1st car that I buy myself, so I just wanna be sure...thanks in advance.
Hello there!
You mean 2nd generation of RAV4. 1AZ-FE and 2AZ-FE are petrol engines and came out in 2000, so they were relatively new and unperfected. According to a site (Link), oil burning was problematic for North American models.
I personally prefer last year or two of a generation. Those are usually the most perfected. As I am familiar, they have problem with leaky sunroofs. This site also gives you some basic info about that car (Click there).
Good luck!
Thanks a lot!
You are welcome!
