My wife's 2011 Camry was totalled in a parking lot after an idiot hit it. The insurance provider decided the cost to fix was higher than the valueof the car. So we are looking at the Rav4 and the CR-V. She wants an 18, 19, or 20 model. Which one do you guys think is better?

I would go with the RAV4, 2018 model year which was the last year of that generation (least propensity for issues/bugs near the end  of a generation, typically).  See write ups below for more insight:

Get the RAV4.

A well cared for used ‘18 RAV-4 would be my very first choice! ‘19-‘21 would be my distant second. Honda CRV I would skip outright. Honda-recent is not Honda-past. Pity, …

RAV4 or CR-V?

I have driven both the previous generations RAV4 and CR-V frequently for the last 5-6 years.  They are both 2015s, the RAV4 at about 50K miles and the CR-V at about 100K miles.  They are both amazing vehicles, and testaments to both Toyota and Honda's quality and reliability.  Both are in great shape with just basic maintenance.

The RAV-4 is a little more fun and sporty drive.  And I feel it handles better.  Think winding roads and hills. Probably because it has an automatic transmission.  The RAV4 trunk is tighter, if it was just a tiny bit bigger, it wouldn't cause me as much frustration.  And the cabin space feels tighter.

The CR-V is a more comfortable to drive.  It feels a little more lux. Think long road trips. Probably because of the CVT.  The CR-V also feels a little roomier.  I feel like I can breathe easier. And I can fit more stuff in the trunk.  It feels better thought out in that regard.  It's really hard choice for me to pick one over the other.

I personally would look at what is available in your market, and go for the better deal.  Unless you can test drive, and see which one you like the feel of better.

P.S. - If you are looking at hybrid versions, Toyota all the way. Honda isn't necessarily bad, but Toyota is way better in that regard.
