Rebuilding 1946 Ton 1/2 Stovebolt GM Truck

Hi Scotty!

My father turned the keys to the above truck to me. I would really like to get this thing running on a budget. I'm a big fan of GM Motors and id like to put a motor and manual transmission in it. What are some of your suggestions?

Thanks! Jason

gm cars have 0 out of 100 reliability but it is your and your dads choice

I don't think reliability is what he's worried about. He just wants to rebuild his dads old truck.

A 1946 GM truck has absolutely no connection with the junk that General Motors is peddling today. By the standards of its day a '46 GM vehicle would be at least as reliable as anything else of that time period.

Just try to find a 350 with a 4 bolt main and get a driveshaft shop to make you a driveshaft. Probably the simplest way to do it without adding too many computers like if you were to try to stuff a modern 5.3 in there.
