Repairing electric vehicles

Hey Scotty from neighboring NC.

I was  watching a video and  you were  talking about Volkswagon becoming electric. You mentioned that electric vehicles were all VW is going to produce. I was imagining the cost of a repair on an all electric  vehicle. I don't see an all electric vehicle being a viable form of transportation. I think hybrid is the only viable long distant travel. Charging the batteries with a small perhaps 1 or 2 cylinder engine just to run an alternator to do periodic charging so the vehicle can either make it  to a charging station or your destination. The electric drive motors if not maintained could cause catastrophic fires or possibly lose control if it locks up and seizes. Id love to have your opinion on the costs related to electric motor driven cars and what the possible cost of those plus doing a brake job on said vehicle.

The costs of electric motors for vehicles are pretty expensive right now because it's new technology. Once it becomes mainstream, the cost will level-out. And there's not much competition between fully-electric vehicles right now, so once there is competition, the prices will definitely become more reasonable.

As for the safety concerns you bring up, we don't have enough real-world data to back up those claims of fire hazards and motors locking up. Sure those lithium-ion batteries can be very dangerous, but how many times have they REALLY caught fire. In fact, I'm more concerned about the AI self-driving than the batteries catching on fire lol. Realize that you can pose these safety concerns for a gasoline vehicle as well...gasoline is very flammable; I've seen engines catch on fire quite a few times; engines can lock up too while driving, etc.
