I found out that Ford has retroactively changed the recommended oil from 5W-30 to 0W-20 on its 5.4 liter engines! Should I go to the new? I try to keep up with modern traffic in a 1999 F250 5.4 liter gas engine manual transmission, 135000 miles It does have what I think is valve ticking until warm. Thanks for any advice. Mani

Toyota did something similar with their lineup. I’ve switched. And I’m a pinch, I switch back, because both 3 oil weights are acceptable in my vehicle.
With oil, if they say it is okay, it usually is ok!

Where did you find this out - can you provide a link? I would recommend sticking to what you have been using on that original engine and what the manual says.
