Hi Scotty!  Thank you for your service! Right Up Your Alley Scotty! Simple but important new Nissan Truck Question, not a car question. I believe you are a fan but not a car fan.

I am seriously considering buying a mid sized truck this winter.  Loving the look etc. of the 2022 Nissan Frontier.  Not a fan of Toyota but know they are tried and true.  Had excellent 12 year experience with a Nissan Hardbody years ago but bad luck with an Altima that we got rid of that only had 30k miles on it.

What do you think of the New 2022 Froniter coming out.  Value your input a great deal.

Thank you,

Jim

No one knows how it holds up overtime or how the quality is. Stick to older ones which seem to be decent.

They have yet to be released so nobody can give you an educated true opinion.. I’ve seen one in person and they are sharp.. it’s the 9 speed trans which thus far has been strong and not problematic and the 3.8liter which puts out awesome power and again no known issues. They haven’t been on the road yet to know to awful much but they should be a pretty awesome little truck I know I want one

Like most other vehicles, the new ones suck.

Well, I would wait to see how they hold up since it's a redesign. The frontier is a great truck and the new one is really nice with its design, the Mercedes design 9 speed, and the strong VQ V6 engine. I think it could put a good fight with the Tacoma (maybe not in terms of resale value), but way better than the Ridgeline and American offerings from Stellantis, Ford, and GM.

It’s too new to tell, and why be a guinea pig for a new truck?  If you intend to keep the truck for as long as possible with minimal issues, I would look at a 2019 model year or older Frontier;  the 2020 and newer went to newer powertrain — both engine and transmission as well as switched to direct injection-only — and not as true and tried as the older powertrains (engine and transmission) in the 2019 and older Frontiers.  I am also not a fan of any 9-speed ATs from a longevity point of view.  The older 5-speed ATs (while you may think of them as “old”) were true and tried.
