I have to travel approximately 366 miles to my new workplace. Do I need to rest my car ever 2 hours for 15 to 20 minutes?

No.
You need to rest yourself (or the driver) every 2-3 hrs, to keep away fatigue.

Is that so? A mechanic I went to said European car engines will be strained if driven too long during hot weather and is bad for your engine in the long run. Was he misinformed?
Maybe 20-30 yrs ago. Not anymore, not for regular driving conditions atleast.
