Saturn LS2 Low Power Light after idling

Topic starter

Saturn LS2 sedan with 87,500 miles. Since the car had about 30,000 miles every time the car idles for more than 10 minutes in stop and go commuter traffic the “low power” light goes on and the car has even occasionally stalls out and requires a good five minutes before it restarts.  No mechanic has been able to duplicate the problem because they naturally don’t have the time to sit in bumper and bumper commuter traffic and wait for low power light.  I have been the only owner and the car has not been in a wreck

Several possibilities:

1. Dirty MAF sensor;

2. Dirty throttle body;

3. Weak alternator or belt (not charging the battery sufficiently while driving);

4. Battery weak or drained (parasitic draw, corrosion on clamps or posts or somewhere else in the electrical system);

5. Dirty engine air filter:

6. Restricted fuel filter or weak fuel pump.

7. O2 sensors are substandard

The cheap DIY fixes are #1,2 &5.

The alternator and battery can be tested. The 02 sensors can be scanned.

Fuses can be probed for potential parasitic draws;

Start with the easy and cheap
