Hey Scotty and fellow kilmer community,

I got this scan tool from my friend brand new in the box that he gave me bc he just never used it and knows i wanted one. It's an OM126P unit from AutoPhix. Its free so it's not like i am scared of it being bad or anything, i just wanna know your opinion on the scan tool, I'm no pro mechanic i just need something that'll tell me codes (accurately obviously) and give me some live data. Thanks for your pro insight in advance!

You got this one for free; what the heck- if it tells you all the data, OBD-II codes and everything then you might have yourself a good product.

I have never heard of them, and a quick Google search shows they are a Chinese company who started a few years ago - not sure that gives me the warm, fuzzy feelings.  I personally only stick to the reputable, true and tried brands as I don’t like the idea of hooking a no-name scanner to my expensive vehicles and, worst case, it shorts something out on your OBDII port and now you got electrical issues (not to mention damaged computer modules).  It doesn’t matter if I got it for free - I prefer to play it safe.  IMO, a scan tool is an investment:  get a decent one and then hold onto it.  You can find some decent ones from Autel or Bluedriver in the $30-$100 range.
