...Scanner Hell...

Topic starter

Just bought yet another scanner that's basically useless, there are millions of them out there and they tell you that they'll read any car,

I don't mind paying out for a decent one (though I probably won't use some of the features) I want something that will read a range of

cars, but it also has to be able to read my 2003 Mercedes slk...I'm going blind reading all the advertising blurb but they rarely list the

cars their product actually works on...I watched Scotty's video on the Autel - but can't get one here in the UK, I can get the other one

he recommended, the Bluedriver, but again, I don't know if it will work on my car...any recommendations welcomed...

Post the brand of the scanner that you got so we can all avoid it!

I have a BlueDriver and I used it on my mom's friend’s 02 C230 Kompressor coupe, so I’d imagine it would work for an SLK as well. While Mercedes is a luxury brand, it’s not super high end to the point where you need special scan tools, especially with the more generic stuff you say you’ll be doing.

Amazon Uk has plenty of Autel scanners: https://shorturl.at/rghKW

If you want a really good one, make sure it has bidirectional scanning. Launch is also good and it has lifetime upgrades on the less expensive models. I wouldn't recommend the CRP123 models as they are rather basic and their menu system is not very user friendly but overall work great and I have one. If you have the money, get something like this: https://shorturl.at/0Qi0Q

Cheers!
