Hi, i have a 2000 Lincoln navigator with 205k miles. It only starts in neutral and when I try to set it in park it keeps rolling forward or backwards depending on the slope. It only gets into park when I wiggle the shifter. Transmission was no issues while driving. Thx in advance.

On the Fords the 1st thing to check is if the two T30 torx screws down next to the steering linkage under the dash have loosened up because that's a common issue.

The next place is to check to see if the plastic bushing down where the shift cable attaches to the transmission is broken.

You can buy those bushings at the auto parts store or amazon/ebay.

It's made by Dorman (it's just plastic so don't sweat about that).

Our Ford trucks use the round bushing. Dorman 14057.

I think your Lincoln uses the square one. Dorman 14908

I'll check it out. Thank you
