How can you tell if your shift linkage is bad? Are shift linkages expensive to repair?

Its bad if it does not work as intended.....is this a transmisson shift for the floor or column ?   What is the problem exactly ?.......more info required for a better response.

Usually they are fairly easy to repair. But we need to know what kind if car it is. 


Its a 2007 Honda Accord V6 with a manual transmission. Its hard to shift from 1st to 2nd gear sometimes, even when the car is off. I was told it could be a shift linkage, so thats why I asked this question.


Should be located on the driver side (US) of the motor on top of the transmission. Sometimes its as simple as a bolt coming loose but take a look at it first.


Have someone try to put it into gear while your looking at it.
