2003 Escalade ext 6.0 with 220,000 miles and a transmission needs to be put in, mostly highway mileage, in good condition other than transmission, should I buy for $1500?

I would be weary of buying a GM SUV with that mileage and low (for an SUV) price - especially in this hot market!  Yes it needs a transmission, but at that age and mileage other things (especially electrical) can start to give issues.  I see a potential money pit ahead, and best to avoid it.  It may look tempting, but I would not bite.

I like that era of SUV, I miss my '02 Tahoe 4x4. But even I wouldn't go for that deal, more $$ to get the thing running than it's worth. I might make a good parts car for about $500.

Of course not

I shudder to think what parts you will find have gone out/are going out on that thing.

I know it is cheap, but it won't be cheap to repair and it will never have value because of the miles, even after you fix it. The only question here is not to buy or not to buy, but whether to walk or run away. And I would run.
