I recently watched Scotty's video "Avoid This Toyota At All Costs" in which he described a particular engine known to burn oil in many Toyotas. The engine he described is a 4 cylinder VVTI engine found in a 2007 Toyota Camry.
I'm wanting to buy a used 2007 Toyota Highlander that also has a VVTI engine. I'm not sure how many cylinders it has, but it's a 3.3 Liter, I think (VVTI 3.3). This Highlander has 179,238 miles on the engine. Should I buy this car? Could I know if the engine burns oil without actually being there to do the tail pipe test that Scotty described in the above video?
Please reply ASAP if possible! I need a new used car really badly and time is of the essence! Thanks so much!
The 6 cylinder Toyota engines did not have an oil burning problem, only the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engines.
You should still have a mechanic inspect the Highlander. If it was not maintained properly it could still be an oil burner.
