Hi Scotty,

My neighbor will be selling their 2012 PriusV with 78K miles, they mentioned they would like about $8K for it, would this be a good used car to get especially with it being a Prius and the battery may need replacing at that age?. Thanks in advance for your input and suggestions. Love your videos {black}:inlove:

Have it checked out by a hybrid expert, with particular attention to evaluating battery condition. That car has low mileage but age is also a factor in battery life and you'd be starting out with a battery pack that is a dozen years old.

Well the battery is generally last over 200,000 mi. Actually that's not a bad deal for that low mileage

I would have it looked over by a pro to make sure it hasn't been wrecked or flooded, but if its legit go for it.

Yes that sounds like a great price to me

That’s a great price. Assuming it checks out.

Something’s to look out for, but not necessarily a deal breaker.

1) Obviously the battery, anecdotal evidence suggests you have at least 75K miles or 4-5 years before needing to change it. At best, it could even go up towards 150K more miles
2) PCV Valve. It’s become a maintenance item that needs replacing every so often.
3) Watch your oil more intently. This engine is good, if it has enough oil. They may start to burn oil as it ages, but if you keep up with oil changes and adding oil, hopefully it will last longer. Obviously, we hope it doesn’t burn too much oil.

I don’t see a point in getting a used, old hybrid vehicle.  More things to go wrong, double the trouble since you have both ICE and hybrid/electrified components to worry about.  Plus, there are fewer mechanics that are trained and competent to work on Hybrids.

.

I would focus your search on just ICE.
