Hi Scotty. Amazing show! Help me please! Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tundra Crewmax TRD Off-Road with 12,016 km from my local Toyota dealership or wait for the new 2022? It would be a daily driver with some light towing. I know your opinion on turbos, but should I worry about the V8 fuel economy and available parts over the next 20 years? Thanks again for your great advice. Cheers! Andrew White.
Get the V8 and don't worry about parts availability. You can still find parts for Toyotas that are over 30 years old. About the mpg, you should not expect to get a good gas mileage out of a truck. On the other hand, reliability is what you need to care the most.
For longevity and proven powertrain, definitely go with the naturally aspirated V8. There is also less tech than the newer (current) generation Tundra so less things to break over time. The new Tundra is just not going to last as long as the older Tundras (don’t forget also it now has a 10-speed automatic transmission).
The simple questions is which do you like more? Also is the 2020 in like new shape?
I would buy the Toyota Tundra with a V8. The 2022 Toyota Tundras already have a problem with their turbo waste gates. Realize you only buy this truck for reliability and hauling. You will expect the gas mileage to suffer.
