Should I do a transmission flush?

Hey Scotty, I just got my oil changed at 32 thousand miles on my used 2017 Ford Fusion and my mechanic said next time I get an oil changed I should also flush my transmission fluid for $170. Is this a fair price and should I do it?

@fordfusion123
No I don’t think you should do it unless you really need the flush done that’s my opinion.

Never do a transmission flush!

The places that off transmission flushes rarely change the filter when they service the tranny. Meaning when the flush all the crap in your transmission, it gets stuck in the filter and clogs the system. 2000-3000 miles later you're gonna have some major problems!

This happened to my mom with her 2018 honda pilot. The guy that did the flush said there was no filter for her car. I looked it up later, and it does, it's just a pain in the ass to get to! That's why he didn't change it.

Just change the fluid in the pan and change the filter, save yourself some money and a BIG headache.

Finally, someone agrees with me on NOT flushing the transmission! That was the exact point I made in another post, and someone got defensive about it. A drain, pan drop, filter replacement, and refill is all you need to do...just like an oil change but every 50,000 miles or so. It's WAY safer than flushing crud through a delicate system.

  1. Modern transmissions need a fluid change every 100k or around there. $170 seems pretty expensive, as the fluid cost about $40 at most

Look in your owner's manual first to see if you actually need it.
