Hi I Have a 2010 Chevy Avalanche LT 5.3 engine. I have a check engine light on and the codes are p308. It losses power going up hills lost of compression. The one mechanic says my engine is basically gone or going out. I had a 2nd opinion and they tested the wires spark plugs and the ignition wires but still not sure. If it is the engine is it better to rebuild or purchase a factory rebuild motor. Yes i want to keep the truck it only has 144000 miles on it.
Obviously you'll want to make sure the engine is actually worn out, but if it is a factory rebuilt engine is the best alternative. Modern engines are very complex with tight tolerances. It's not like rebuilding old-school pushrod engines.
Replace it with a remanufactured one. Make sure that a compression test is done on that remanufactured engine.
