Should my Brother Buy this Subaru

Scotty and Moderators,

My Brother is looking at buying this Subaru from Carvana.  I know Scotty has said before that buying on Carvana isn't usually as good, but this is a very new vehicle with low miles.  (Link below)

Let me know if you think this will be reliable for him.  He will probably put about 10 to 12,000 miles a year on it.

I don't know a whole lot about the newer Subaru engines and transmissions so let me know your thoughts on the engine and transmission.

There does not appear to be have been much in the way of inherent problems with that model in recent years, the worst years appear to be pre-2020:

Having said that, aside from being very high-priced Carvana is a favorite dumping ground for people looking for a way to get rid of a bad car while getting the most money for it. You have to wonder why a virtually new car has been dumped there. Was it flooded? Major accident damage? Or was it just a lemon? (You cannot rely on Carfax to tell you since everything in not reported to them.)

Subaru CVTs are not as bad as the awful Jatco units that Nissan and some others use, but are still not likely to deliver service life equivalent to a good conventional automatic transmission. CVT life can likely be extended by ignoring the "sealed transmission with lifetime fluid" claim and performing regular fluid changes as well as avoiding excess stresses such as towing.

As with any used vehicle, what is needed is a good mechanic to give it a thorough examination before purchase. If Carvana does not permit this then run away.

That vehicle is suspiciously new for a Carvana offering. Whoever owned that Crosstrek apparently had money to burn, because he took a 20% haircut when he drove it off the dealer lot, then he took an additional haircut selling that car to Carvana 10 months later. He was apparently desperate to sell. To me, that is very suspicious.

As for their CVTs, they're better-made than offerings from Jatco, who makes transmissions for Nissan. How much better, I don’t know. My wife bought a brand-new Subaru WRX, but her car has a manual transmission,  not a CVT. Personally, I don't like the way CVTs feel. They have a rubber band sensation to them.
