I have a 2016 Nissan Altima with over one hundred thousand miles, that is only worth $7,000 but I owe $14,900. The transmission sensor error light is on and the car is driving poorly; should i have the transmission rebuilt or just get rid of the car? I was told there is no option for only replacement for transmission fluid sensor; one has to replace/ rebuild CVT transmission.
Have you ever changed the trans fluid?
Get rid of the car. I really feel bad that you owe money on the car when the car is already breaking down. This is exactly why I tell people to stay away from CVTs and Nissan. Poor quality.
Thank you
Transmission replacement would cost upwards of the value of the car I would just get a different car that is better made.
thank you
Hy!
Rebuilding transmission can reach the worth of your car. And probably other problems will follow.
I suggest you sell Nissan and get Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic for similar price. It will be older but more reliable.
Anyway road test it and have it checked by a mechanic if you like it.
Good luck!
Thank you.
You are welcome.
How much for the transmission?
I was quoted $3,300.
How poorly does it drive?
On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give a two. The car will stop while in drive and I'll have to wait for car to find proper shift.
ok so it sounds like it's worth almost nothing in its present state, and $7k with a new transmission. Seems like a no brainer. Fix it and get rid of it. Recover as much as you can and cut your losses.
