my name is jodie clark I recently purchased 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3L SLE with a 10 speed transmission in it. Tell me how good this vehicle is . Tell how good the transmission is or isn’t and drive train as well. it is a long bed so there’s a regular size bed on it. It is a four-door. Also, it has that DMF in it I drive it in manual so it doesn’t kick in four-cylinder. What else can I tell you about it you seem to known a lot.
thank you
jodie clark .
Per Scotty, overall quality is low on GM's light-duty trucks and the 10-speed transmission is junk. Best bet is to baby the truck and maintain it according to the "severe service" schedule.
how good this vehicle is
Pretty terrible.
You'll be better off selling it ASAP
The 5.3L L84 engines were junk right out of the gate. It doesn't matter how well you maintain them. They were already failures when they were delivered to the dealership. They fail before the first oil change is ever due!
And GM is being sued for it

The 5.3 is ok. Not great, but as you have surmised, most of the problems relate to cylinder deactivation. If you mitigate that and keep fresh oil in it, the motor should be ok.
I’ll disagree with @chucktobias on the transmission reliability but agree on following the severe service maintenance schedule. The standard transmission service interval is way too optimistic.
GM’s 8 speed is a disaster, but the 10 speed is better (Ford also uses the same transmission and it has been terrible in Fords, but it’s been more reliable in GM applications). As with any transmission, drive and tow conservatively.
Overall, I think you made a good choice. (FWIW, I have a 22 Sierra with the 3L diesel. At 50,000 - mostly towing- miles, no problems yet.)
